Introduction - what's it all about?

Welcome from Megan and the SAGE Study Skills team!  This is the first post to introduce us and tell you a little bit more about our blog.

We hope you'll find this blog a useful resource for improving your study and research through social media platforms and tools. We're going to share ideas and inspiration on how to use social media to support your study, and also want to hear your tips to share with other readers.  Tell us what has (and hasn’t!) worked for you, whether it’s using social networks as study groups, writing a blog as part of your coursework, or a great note-taking tool you’ve discovered.  In return, we’ll share our study and research tips and tricks, with guest posts from SAGE study skills authors, extracts from our books and also helpful advice we've come across from other universities and students.

And who are we?

About Megan...

I’m the PhD Academic and Research Skills Advisor at the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University.  I’ve worked as an academic, researcher, academic skills advisor, and an educational designer, for over 10 years, giving me a unique understanding of the issues that confront both staff and students in the integration of social media into their every day study and research practices.  I hope to share some of this knowledge and experience with you via this blog and also my book Studying and Researching with Social Media.

A bit more about my work: I‘ve won several awards for my SkillSoup podcasting project and am particularly known for my best practice approaches to risk management in the area of social media.  I’m also the author of Using Social Media in the Classroom and co-author with Gail Craswell of Writing for Academic Success.  I hold a PhD in Social Anthropology from the Australian National University.

So that's our introduction - there'll be another post coming soon to kick things off properly, then in January we'll start sharing some material.
